GD 101

Name of Game: Anti-panic-buying action

Genre: board game

High Concept: Supermarkets are running low on food, cleaning supplies such as hand sanitizer, toilet paper, etc, due to the covid-19 pandemic. You are trying to get as many supplies as you need for the week, but you keep finding that people are extremely selfish during times of emergencies, so you do whatever you can to get what you need. Throughout the game, the player will collect at least one of each item in the supermarket while trying to distance him or herself from other shoppers.

Target audience: Ages 12+, anyone familiar with playing board games, anyone living through quarantine.

Assets: Game board, cards with different types of groceries and cards representing $1,200 per week, pieces resembling the players, six-sided dice.

Heuristic goals: To encourage players to collect one of each of the ten shopping items in the game while also encouraging to ration their money.

Pitch: The goal of my game is to reflect the current state of the supply chain in supermarkets during the covid-19 pandemic, but in a more humorous form. This game could be potentially profitable since it helps people cope with the stress and fear of going through a pandemic and will likely bring people together to bond with one another.

Gameplay instructions/rules:

  1. There can be up to four players in this game. Each player will be given green cards that resemble their “ stimulus check” of $1200.
  2. The players will have to buy at only one of each of the ten grocery items that are available within the game. If any single player attempts to buy more than what they are expected to have, then that player will have their groceries reduced to zero and must start collecting again.
  3. The players must ration their money to the best of their ability and should still have some portion of their money saved.
  4. The player will roll the dice and move to the spot based on the number that he or she rolled. If they land on a tile that has no groceries, that player will lose $40 from their stimulus check.

Victory condition: The player with the most saved up money and most number of groceries by the end of the game wins.
